The destination resort communities of Ketchum and Sun Valley are located in central Idaho, at the northern end of the Wood River Valley. The towns of Hailey and Bellevue lie 11-14 miles to the south and are home to a majority of the residents of Blaine County.

To the north lies the majestic 750,000 acre Sawtooth National Recreation Area, a mountain haven for outdoor recreation of all kinds. Sun Valley is a site of America's first destination ski resort, built in 1936, and the area has been a popular vacation destination for over 60 years.

Ketchum, located one mile east of Sun Valley, is a historic mining town that now serves as the commercial hub of shops, restaurants, art galleries, theaters, museums and lodging for the area. Tourism is the main economic force in the area, with growth in non placed-based industries.
